Tour the Snaefellsnes Peninsula – by minibus
… and discover the picturesque landscapes at the National Park along the volcano & glacier Snæfellsjökull. It’s the setting of the Jules Verne novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.
As we explore the coast, you’ll see weird basalt rock formations along the trail between Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Bird colonies are to be found there all year round, with seagulls, cormorants and fulmars feeding from the rich fishing grounds of the area. You’ll enjoy the cliffs made of basalt lava. One of the nicest formations is an arch or gateway located at the trail’s head name Gatklettur.
Shaped by the ocean, the glacier, and centuries of volcanic activity with lava fields, fjords, waterfalls and cute fishing villages, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is certainly ‘Iceland in Miniature’. We’ll show you see the little black church Búðarkirkja at Búðir, take a walk along the basalt rock formations, and visit the impressive beach of Djúpalónssandur where you can see the remains of two ship wrecks, and later the volcanic neck of Lóndrangar at Malarrif. If you want, you can take the optional extra of Cave Vatnshellir (highly recommended).
Some of the other highlights are the photogenic Kirkjufell mountain and waterfall, the Fjord Kolgrafarfjörður, and the village of Stykkishólmur, which has lots of renovated period houses and a lovely lighthouse. There will be of course secrets stops as usual… “only Guide knows…”!
