South Coast Tour Iceland | Private Super Jeep Tour

The splendor and diversity of the landscapes in the south coast is simply amazing!

You can enjoy this exclusive itinerary where we’ll show you waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers up close and personal, and the black-sand beach.

We head off to the waterfall Seljalandsfoss where you can walk behind the 60 meter high fall. For our next activity we use the advantage of our sensational 4×4 super jeep and go offroading toward Thorsmork Valley. We’ll have to cross some 20 rivers and streams in order to reach our next stop, Glacier Gígjökull which is the largest outlet of the glacier and volcano Eyjafjallajökull, also known as E15.

After the refreshing short walk around the glacier area we get back to the Ring Road and further enjoy the views by the coast. We take a lunch stop at one of the restaurants we recommend by the the South Coast, depending on your budget and food requirements. Next we go to enjoy the beauty of Skógafoss waterfall.

We’ll visit the promontory of Dyrhólaey with stunning views and a lighthouse. Finally, we head off to enjoy the sea stacks of Reynisdrangar with the basalt rock formations at the black-sand beach, which are located near Vík í Mýrdal.

Contact us if you can’t find availability for your traveling date. We may be able to arrange for an extra departure, if the minimum is met.

There will be a number of secret stops as well, but we can’t tell you about it. “Only Guide knows” …

REVIEW: “South Coast Tour... Fabulous!”

“[…] it is absolutely worth spending the extra money and taking a private tour. Orri was able to take us off roading to some magnificent areas. Truly breathtaking scenery. We were able to stop where and whenever we wanted to take pictures. Orri was a pleasure to talk to and shared his love and knowledge of his beautiful country.” …

REVIEW: “South Coast Tour”

“[…] Because our tour was just two of us, we were free to tailor the tour to our interests and even take some “adventurous” routes to a lighthouse and to a viewpoint high above Reykjavik to see the city at night. Iceland is an special place and being able to be at the places you use for your desktop background was something I’ll never forget. Discover Iceland was top-notch in making your trip as special as the landscape itself.”…

Snæfellsnes Peninsula – Private Day Tour

Would you like to enjoy the breathtaking volcanoes, glaciers and unspoiled nature of Thorsmork, the hiker’s paradise?

Visit Snæfellsnes with one of our fun local guides

and discover the picturesque landscapes around the volcano Snæfellsjökull. This area is now a National Park, but it is the setting of the Jules Verne novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

There are weird basalt rock formations along the trail between Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Blowholes, birds and sheer cliffs of lava. One of the nicest formations is an arch or gateway located at the trail’s head name Gatklettur.

Shaped by the ocean, the glacier, and centuries of volcanic activity with lava fields, fjords, waterfalls and cute fishing villages, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is certainly ‘Iceland in Miniature’. You can click on the map icons for pictures and details on the different locations we will visit.

Contact us if you can’t find availability for your traveling date. We may be able to arrange for an extra departure, if the minimum is met.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula | 2 Day Private Tour

Discover Iceland offers overnight customized private tours. You only need to contact us for a price quote. Let us know what you have in mind concerning the type of accommodations, how many people you are, and what you would like to see or do, mainly.

We visit the stunning and isolated landscapes of the National Park in Snæfellsnes in a luxury car, with some optional easy lava tube caving, and maybe the northern lights (in winter). Along the way we explore waterfalls, volcanoes, a glacier, fjords, dramatic cliffs, black sand beaches, the ship wreck of 1948, and so much more. The wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula are so many, that 2 days is really just the minimum time!

Price is 83.900 ISK if 4 people share private tour

We tailor this tour according to your wishes.
Contact us on info@discover.is for your quote.

* Please remember that good hiking shoes will help you enjoy the short hikes and caving experience. Bring waterproof warm clothing (jeans are not good when it’s cold and wet).

National Park and Lava Caves

We pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavík and take the super jeep directly to the beauties of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which we will explore at length. We’ll see the small black church at Búðir with its magnificent backdrop, the volcano and glacier Snæfellsjökull.

We’ll visit the off-road destination of Cave Sönghellir, the fishing village of Arnarstapi with its weird basalt rock formations, and Hellnar. Once in the National Park, we explore Cave Vatnshellir (optional) a lava tube cave that’s very easy to explore, with an expert guide. This is suitable for all, and the tour takes only 45 min. Then we enjoy the amazing beach of Djúpalónssandur, where we find the remains of shipwrecks all over the beach.

Another of our off-road destinations today will be the dramatic cliffs Svörtuloft and its lighthouse. We’ll spend the night in Grundarfjörður, or near.

Fjords and Highland Pass

We’ll see very different landscapes today. We might begin exploring the famous Kirkjufell and its scenic waterfall. On our way along the north coast of the peninsula we’ll see two fjords, and then the cozy fishing town of Stykkishólmur. The town is known for its renovated period houses and stunning views, and because the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” was recorded here, among other locations in Iceland.

We’re going to show you another beautiful and not often visited off-road location, the Highland Pass of Heydalur, with beautiful scenery and lakes. Then we travel inland to see the cascades of Hraunfossar. You don’t see any river above the falls, because the water comes through the lava rock. If it’s possible, then we drive Hvalfjörður Fjord before we reach the capital, hoping that you’ve enjoyed the tour.

The BEST and only way to really see Iceland

During our cruise to Iceland my husband and I decided to book a private tour with a local company rather than relying on the cruise line during our time in Reykjavik. After a lot of researching we decided to book with Discover Iceland, which turned out to be a brilliant decision….

The ONLY way to see Iceland

I cannot say enough good things about Discover Iceland. The office was very responsive and informative while booking tours and the guides were all extremely nice, professional, and fearless when it came to the snow-covered roads in blizzard-like conditions. We had the fearless Orri and his amazing “super-jeep” Joy for two tours (Golden Circle with snowmobiles and Southern Coast) …

Westfjords Strandir | 3 Day Private Tour

Strandir: The Last Frontier. The region of Strandir in the Westfjords is paramount for isolation, beating to the sound of silence and oblivion in winter. The vast expanses and deep and long fjords are Discover Iceland’s destination, as we reach out on this 3-day super jeep tour, both in summer and winter.

And what can you do in this pristine environment by the Arctic Ocean? Check on the infinity pool of Krossneslaug, maybe opt for snowmobiling (deep winter only), see the northern lights (Sep – mid April) do some hikes, enjoy the fascinating scenery with its waterfalls and driftwood sprinkled on the shores … and breathe.

PRICE: The price here quoted is for a group of 4 people. We can tailor this adventure tour for other group sizes – contact us on info@discover.is for a price quote.

We’ll be accommodated for two nights in Djúpavík, which is the place where you can see an old herring factory. If you like photographing decay, this is going to be paradise for you.

Today we set off for the Westfjords, and we’ll make a detour towards the area of Borgarfjörður, where we see the cascades of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar. Then we visit the largest of all Icelandic lava tube caves, Víðgelmir, known as The Cave. This activity is a guided by a local specialist. The cave has a wooden platform where we can walk, all the way.

We finally meet the Arctic Ocean. We’ll see driftwood that has been encircling the entire polar region, before landing on these shores. The scenery of fjords and mountains is staggering.

On our second day we will explore this area in depth. The geothermal infinity pool of Krossneslaug is a must (don’t forget your swimsuit and towel). Then we head further north for even more desolate areas, such as Fjord Ingólfsfjörður.

The summer program may include hiking in search for hidden waterfalls, and the midnight sun. The winter program may include northern lights, and the possibility of snowmobiling during the months of February and March.

The serene beauty of the Strandir region will say goodbye to us today. As we head south, we will visit other locations. After Hólmavík, we take the road toward a fjord with a thousand islands and skerries. Absolutely breathtaking views there. Today we’ll make a very interesting cultural visit to the replica of the viking longhouse where the discoverer of America was born, Leif Eriksson (Leifur Eiríksson for us). He set foot in America around 1000 AD.

Would you like to take a hike on a volcano? That’s exactly what we’ll do next. It’s possible to hike on Crater Grábrók by a marked trail, and your guide will explain the geology of this volcanic fissure.

REYKJANES – PRIVATE TOUR

Ideal for those who want to see as much as possible, with little driving

The fact is that the Reykjanes Peninsula is a treasure chest of attractions, both natural and cultural. We can include the Blue Lagoon as a part the tour.

Now… the program! :) Where do we go? We begin with Lake Kleifarvatn and the hot springs of Krýsuvík, named Seltún. These locations are part of the Reykjanes Unesco Geopark. We’ll see a Ship Wreck from 1988 and then pay a visit to the fishing village of Grindavík and look at its harbour.

Then we head to the ever changing hot springs of Gunnuhver, the Reykjanes Lighthouse, and the Valahnúkar Cliffs, where the Atlantic Ridge comes ashore. The next stop will help you understand more about the geology of Iceland, as we stand on the Bridge Between Continents. But first we enjoy the black-sand beach of Sandvík, which was one of the shooting locations of the movie ‘Flags of Our Fathers’. Then driving along the rugged coastline we find Garður and its two very photogenic lighthouses. During the summer time it should be possible to see quite a lot of bird life in some of these areas.

At the end of the tour we have a cultural visit to the Viking World, which is optional to go in. You’ll learn about how the vikings sailed to America a thousand years ago! Then we come by the Blue Lagoon to see the beautiful blue silica water and the lava, and then return to Reykjavík.

* If your desired date in not available on the calendar, send us an email to info@discover.is – we may be able to arrange for an extra departure if the minimum is met. Also, see our half-day tour.

REVIEW: “Best way to discover Iceland!”

[…] The best thing is that you don’t go with a crowded bus, but you enjoy a trip which is nearly private. Both guides were knowledgeable and nice and you really see lots of landscapes and places that you wouldn’t be able to see if you go with a bus or by yourself, especially in winter!

REVIEW: “Adventure with our very own Viking!”

a fantastic guide, full of information about Iceland and it’s history keeping us entertained on a journey along the south coast which we will never forget. Thank you for probably the best trip of my life!
