Since the Volcanic eruption started in the valley of Geldingadalur at Fagradalsfjall mountain on 19th of March 2021 Icelanders have flocked to see the Volcano showing its breathtaking beauty. The Volcano is still emitting fresh lava. This is a once in a life time experience not to be missed. The BEST and only way to really see Iceland

During our cruise to Iceland my husband and I decided to book a private tour with a local company rather than relying on the cruise line during our time in Reykjavik. After a lot of researching we decided to book with Discover Iceland, which turned out to be a brilliant decision….

Snæfellsnes Peninsula – Private Day Tour

Would you like to enjoy the breathtaking volcanoes, glaciers and unspoiled nature of Thorsmork, the hiker’s paradise?

Visit Snæfellsnes with one of our fun local guides

and discover the picturesque landscapes around the volcano Snæfellsjökull. This area is now a National Park, but it is the setting of the Jules Verne novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.

There are weird basalt rock formations along the trail between Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Blowholes, birds and sheer cliffs of lava. One of the nicest formations is an arch or gateway located at the trail’s head name Gatklettur.

Shaped by the ocean, the glacier, and centuries of volcanic activity with lava fields, fjords, waterfalls and cute fishing villages, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is certainly ‘Iceland in Miniature’. You can click on the map icons for pictures and details on the different locations we will visit.

Diamond Beach | Jökulsárlón | Long Day Tour

This trip is designed for the need of a one day tour to Jökulsárlón iceberg lagoon. The price shown is for a SUV tour (not a super jeep) – see the booking system.

After a very early departure from Reykjavík, we head straight for the promontory of Dyrhólaey.

Diamond Beach Iceland Tour is quite renowned for Dyrholaey Island, formed by the eruption of Volcanoes, Dyrholaey is a former island of volcanic origin, situated on the south bank of Iceland. While driving from Ring Road towards East from Reykjavik, Dyrholaey can be found easily while heading towards the black sand beach of Reynisfjara and Reynisdrangar Cliffs, near Vik Town. It takes approximately two hours (175 km) while driving straight from Reykjavik.

This tour is for people who have a lot of stamina.

Dyrholaey, which is a little landmass/peninsula on the south bank/coast of Iceland, is renowned for its a prominent and natural arch. It offers an incredible sight of the black sand shorelines/beaches around the town Vik, the black magma segments Reynisdrangar and to the north, where the compelling spring of gushing lava Katla rests under the glacier Myrdalsjokull. The entire coastline west of Dyrholaey is completely visible and you can easily see all the way towards Selfoss town but it’s possible only on a clear day.

Next, we move towards to the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara. This is one of the most popular beaches in the world and is known for its black sand. It is quite popular for its wild and mesmerising beauty where the roaring waves of the Atlantic Ocean ashore with tremendous force. In 1991, Reynisfjara showed up among the top ten rundowns of the most beautiful non-tropical shorelines on the planet, and it is extremely simple to perceive any reason why it was picked in our Diamond Beach Iceland tour!
Depending on the velocity of your driving, it takes around 2.5 hours from Reykjavik to Reynisfjara Black Beach which is situated on the South Coast of Iceland. Planning a day trip from Reykjavik to Reynisfjara Black Beach in Iceland can be quite feasible and if you are also planning to visit its south coast, then there are many tours in Iceland which will fall in your way.
Not only this Reynisfjara is effectively perhaps the busiest shorelines of Iceland since it is so effectively available thus prominent! When looking south directly from there, the next land would be Antarctica.

Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach are places of magic, maybe some of the most stunning places on the planet. The Diamond Beach of Iceland is located in the south-western part of Iceland. It is situated at a distance of six hours from the capital city of Iceland. Also, it is just next to the very famous Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, that means two beautiful places in Iceland can be covered in one go.

During the summer and the shoulder season, you can take an optional boat tour among the icebergs of the lagoon (not included in the tour price). You can either take a zodiac boat or the amphibian boat tour, and both are magical experiences. The freezing cold glacial water is a stunning blue. This is a place that really must be visited to be truly understood and appreciated!

Mother Nature has one more gift for us to enjoy here. The smaller icebergs break free from the lagoon and are pulled out to the Atlantic by the tide. There, these millennial bergs stay until they either melt or are pulled back out to sea.

The ice blocks sit on the most stunning jet black velvety fine volcanic beach sand. All these icebergs on the beach, on the black sand, combined with the power of the waves and the sunlight reflecting through and off the bergs create a place that is so magical it will literally leave you speechless. Just like diamonds on black velvet. Thus it is called “Diamond Beach”.

The beach is a black sand beach with chunks of white icebergs (that appear like diamonds) scattered all over the beach. The beach looks totally surreal with these ice crystals over the moist black sand. This could be an ideal place to spend the evening and play with the colourful ice chunks.

The local name for the diamond beach Iceland is Breiðamerkursandur as the glacier originates from the Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet of Europe’s largest glacier Vatnajökull. There is also the facility of boating on the glacial river lagoon. The diamond beach Iceland tour and Jokulsarlon lagoon tour are the most favourites place of the tourists who come to visit Iceland throughout the year. The ice chunks that are found are of different colours, from blue to turquoise and white. They just look surreal, especially in the night time.

Another popular attraction of our Diamond Beach and Jokulsarlon Iceland tour is Ice lagoon due to its breathtaking view. This is an achingly beautiful spot that one simply must not miss. The views of the ice in the water with the glacier in the background are quite spectacular, especially if the sun is shining. You can also go to see the icebergs heading out to see at the nearby beach. This is certainly a must-do in Iceland. One must see this place to believe the beauty of nature.

During deep winter we will be travelling in the dark for the most part.

We will also see two more of the main highlights of the South Coast, such as the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Skogafoss is one of the beautiful and biggest waterfalls in the country. It is located near the village Skogar with a width of 25 meters. The waterfall consistently produces a single or double rainbow (which is a must-see) due to spray on a sunny day. The river below Skogafoss is a favourite place for many people during summers. Hiking is one of the major attraction of people to visit Skogafoss. Some people like to camp in the camping area of Skogafoss in their diamond beach Iceland tour, some rent a cabin and rest prefer hotels. There are many sightseeing places as well as adventurous activities that can be done around Skogafoss. It is an amazing place to stop and cherish the beauty of nature.

This is one of the most popular places to visit in our Diamond Beach Iceland Tour package. Iceland has more than a hundred waterfalls to offer, but this fall has a unique feature as it allows you to walk behind it. The water that flows down the fall comes from the melting water of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. As said above, this fall in the Diamond Beach Iceland Tour attracts a lot of tourists to take a careful walk behind the curtain of the fall. Do not forget to take your cameras to click some amazing pictures. The fall is about 20 miles distant from the Skogafoss.

Your guide will like to include some secret stops along the way, as time and weather conditions allow. We hope that at the end of the trip you’ll be as pleased as tired?

If you can’t find availability for your dates or don’t meet the minimum, please send us an email to info@discover.is and we’ll see what we can do.

Golden Circle Tour Iceland

On this Golden Circle Tour Iceland you will experience the highlights of the most popular tour in Iceland along with all the hidden secret stops we love so much

The tour is delivered using luxurious SUV/minivan that takes 1-7 persons or for larger groups in a Mercedes minibus that takes 1-16 persons and offers the flexibility and personal service that we like when traveling around.

We begin with the intensely red pseudo craters of Rauðhólar and here you’ll learn about volcanoes and eruptions.

The Rauðhólar known as red hills is basically the remains of pseudocraters in Elliðaárhraun lava fields in the south of Reykjavík city. The reason behind Rauðhólar pseudo craters look so lovely is the eye-catching red color, which is brought about by the scoria being hued by the oxidation of the iron in the lava. The Rauðhólar is around 5200 years old. It was proclaimed as a nature reserve in 1974.

Then we’ll take you to the ocean, to a desolate place, the black sandy beach around a river delta. This is a time to enjoy open spaces and solitude.

Reynisfjara Beach is the most popular black sand beach on the South Coast of Iceland. The wonderful dark sand with incredible waves, also close-by Reynisdrangar ocean Basalt stacks make Reynisfjara a really special spot to visit during Golden Circle Tour Iceland. The reason behind the sand at Reynisfjara being black is that it is formed from vigorously disintegrated volcanic rocks, which are obviously black in color. They have been formed by the solidification of the lava that had been cooled with time.

Then we go to see the famous Crater Kerið (a small entrance fee applies), then Waterfall Faxi.

The mighty Gullfoss Falls will be our next stop. Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall) is a famous waterfall in Iceland offering a marvelous perspective of the beauty and excellence of our nature. Gullfoss is a must-visit part of the Golden Circle Tour Iceland. It is situated in South Iceland on the Hvítá (White) waterway.

When you will get near to this waterfall, you will probably feel extremely little. The proportion of water slipping through the stones is astounding! The best thing about this gorgeous fall is that you can see it is overflowing from the top and get a fascinating view. This spot is spectacular, it will definitely make a place in your heart forever.

See, it is a condition such as high blood circuation. Learn more: www.gulickhhc.com/drugs/birth-control/yasmin.htm

Next will be the Geyser Strokkur, which erupts every 5-8 minutes. Have you at any point seen hot spring water spouting out of the earth and rose to a few meters high in the sky? Don’t miss the chance of taking a look at this present nature’s excellent phenomenon in your Golden Circle Tour Iceland.

Our last stop is Thingvellir National Park, a location very dear to Icelanders due to the contribution it’s given to our history. It’s also a tremendously important place, geologically speaking, since here it’s possible to see the tectonic plates of two continents, splitting apart. And then, we return to Reykjavik and drop you off at your hotel, hoping you’ve enjoyed our minibus tour just like kids :). It is located around 45 min a long way from the capital city, and this is the essential stop on the Golden Circle Tour Iceland.

Contact us by email at info@discover.is if you can’t find availability for your traveling date or if you want to discuss adjust the itinerary.

Would you like to see the off-road version? This is our Golden Circle Tour Iceland – super jeep tour.

Would you like to make this tour a 2 or 3-day multi day private tour then check out our Mission Blue Ice 3 day tour.

“Wow, I really can’t even begin to describe how amazing this tour is! Our guide, Guðmundur Yngvi Hraunfjörð, went above and beyond. We covered so much ground!! These tours are long, but the day really flies by. This also provides the best of both worlds if you’re conflicted about Golden Circle vs. Southern Coast […]”

REVIEW: “A true gem of a company”

[…] The combination of lovely guide, off-the-beaten path sites, and small tour size made Discover Iceland’s Spicy Golden Circle tour an excellent value for the money and a great way to spend my 1 full day in the country. […]

Borgarfjordur, Hraunfossar Waterfall & Glacier Ice Cave | Super Jeep winter Tour

On this day tour you get to discover all the best of what West Iceland has to offer.   On this tour we will show you some of the best places we find in Borgarfjordur.  The first stop will include DEILDARTUNGUHVER the hot spring that supplies nearby towns for their hot water.  You will have a option to soak into the hot SPA of Krauma.  Next we go to enjoy the picture square waterfalls of HRAUNFOSSAR and BARNAFOSSAR as the blue water pour down from under the lava field with.  Next we have few optional options of going into the man made Into The Glacier ice tunnel and onto the glacier LANGJOKULL.  Other optional stop is to visit one of the longest cave in Iceland called Víðgelmir Cave, see The Cave.  If no optional activities are booked we will visit SURTSHELLIR cave which is the longest and most renowned cave in Iceland.

You should bring warm clothes, hiking shoes and can bring lunch too. You also need walking boots or waterproof shoes which they provide.

Cave Víðgelmir

You have the option to pay extra to visit the ice tunnel in Langjökull glacier. If not, we also have the option of visiting Cave Víðgelmir “The Cave”, which is the largest of Icelandic lava tube caves, by volume. It has amazing colors and lava formations that are just waiting to be discovered in the depths of the earth. The gear is provided by the caving guide, and you would spend about 1 hour exploring the cave. Before we move towards the Hraunfossar waterfall, basically mean lava waterfalls. This waterfall is exceptionally delightful to watch. There are downstream series of the waterfalls which flows under the lava from a distance of about 900 meters. The last meters give more charm to the waterfall as they are visible. It is one of the best places for chilling, and for photography. It is a treasure to watch.

we will visit the lave cave.

The lava cave and Ice cave is a dynamic duo. Víðgelmir is Iceland’s largest lava tube cave. You have to see both the glacier ice cave and lave cave if you go to Iceland. First, you will get to the glacier ice cave site. The warm clothing and boots were provided. Don’t forget to wear waterproof clothes and protect your camera from melting water in the ice cave. Then bused to the lava cave. You will see unusual lava formations in Víðgelmir. In the highlands of Iceland Ice cave is a man-made glacier. The formations and movements of glaciers are constantly changing. The temperature inside the glacier is around zero degrees Celsius. This tour does not have a scheduled lunchtime so either take your lunch packed or order your package from us. No one should visit Iceland without exploring its amazing ice caves, lava tubes, and mighty glaciers.

Extras: Ice Tunnel – or – The Cave (Lava Cave Víðgelmir)

Next we drive through Húsafell and stop to see the wonderful Hraunfossar waterfall and Barnafoss waterfall, fed from beneath an ancient lava flow. Finally we will feel the warm steam from the hot springs of Deildartunguhver. On our way back you will have spectacular views driving through the Fjord of Hvalfjörður.

Cascades of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar- They both are neighbouring waterfalls. These waterfalls are located in the Golden circle route. They are not far from the city and the natural beauty of these falls makes the golden circle more attractive. Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls are located in Borgarfjordur in western Iceland in the capital city of Reykjavík.

Hraunfossar waterfall

Barnafossar waterfalls

Barnafoss waterfall also called children’s fall. Barnafossar waterfall is near the Hraunfossar waterfall, another dramatic waterfall. They are located to each other with a few kilometres from Reykholt. Under the national stone bridge, Barnafossar is a mesmerizing light blue waterfall. The scenery around the waterfall is just breathtaking, as the lava flows out from the narrow path. There is a short walk from the car parking to the waterfall and around 300 meters hike to the Hraunfossar waterfall from Barnafossar. It is also an ideal location for photo sessions. These waterfalls are considered as picturesque waterfalls in Iceland and obviously a must-visit if in the country.

“This was unparalleled service and really sealed the deal. We’d book Discover Iceland again in a second, so happy we were with the experiences and memories they helped us make.”

The ONLY way to see Iceland

I cannot say enough good things about Discover Iceland. The office was very responsive and informative while booking tours and the guides were all extremely nice, professional, and fearless when it came to the snow-covered roads in blizzard-like conditions. We had the fearless Orri and his amazing “super-jeep” Joy for two tours (Golden Circle with snowmobiles and Southern Coast) …
